  • Baman Piderman Ep. 11 “Happy Winter Friends Part 2″ | A Web Series Review on The Watch List

    A Cartoon Comedy Web Series

    2 Swirlies

“Piderman, it’s just a moving tree. Remember?”

I barely understand what’s going on in this series. On one level, it’s kind of exactly how a young child would tell a story. It’s almost pure play. On the other hand… what is up with those weird doppleganger basement dwellers? In the last episode they were presented as if they would have a big role in this episode, the second of the two parter, but their appearances were so short I don’t even know what they were doing. Cooking? Eating cereal? (I only got that from a comment on YouTube.)

It’s surreal, that’s for sure. And I admire it for that. I also admire it for using Batman and Spiderman and not being sued… yet. (So they’re a YouTube partner but using copywritten characters? The internet is a mass of contradiction.) I spend more time trying to figure out this show while watching than laughing. Maybe I’m just too literal a person to really get it.

With millions of views across the episodes, they certainly don’t need for me to get it.

But that thing with Tuba’s Dad wanting Baman to marry Tuba? Creeeepy.

“Piderman, don’t you see? We can get a wish to save Pumkin!”

And with bit of logic, off our heroes go into… er… a scary pizza face mouth.

What I love about this show is its ability to capture the tone and logic of kids at play, recreating half understood entertainment tropes and cliches.

I gotta say, Mondo Video does not make it easy to follow their shows. More and more, I’m realizing the shortcomings of YouTube when it comes to web series. But I still fed pretty strongly that if you’re considering using a different player for your show, think long and hard about it. Do you know how many web series I don’t post because the player they went with just won’t play? Plenty.

Anyway, back to the show. For me, the funniest part is Piderman’s webs. Did you know he’s got web shooters in his feet? Hilarious. But a lot of the rest of the episode feels like setup for part 2. And quite a bit of what’s left just plain doesn’t make sense. Really? I have to watch from the start to make sense of what going on in Baman’s basement?

  • Baman Piderman – Tell the Joke

Baman has a joke to tell Piderman so he tells him it!

    Whaaaat?

I’ve never seen an episode of Baman Piderman before. (By MondoMedia, the folks behind Happy Tree Friends and Dr. Tran Mail) I knew going in that there would be some child’s logic going on. I was not expecting this.

I suppose that this could be very funny, but I spent too much time trying to figure it out to laugh. Maybe I just didn’t get it. Why don’t you check it out and get back to me, cause I don’t even know what to say.

What was that screaming face thing on the couch?
